Meeting of Special Working Group for Public Administration Reform on 19 April 2024

The tenth annual meeting of the Special Working Group for Public Administration Reform of the Republic of Serbia and the European Union representatives, co-chaired by Tanja Miščević, the Minister of European Integration, and Cindy van den Boogert, the Deputy Head of the Montenegro and Serbia Unit within the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission, was held today in Belgrade.

Today’s meeting is a continuation of the joint cooperation between Serbia and the EU in strengthening the efficiency, professionalisation, and accountability of public administration. Discussions revolved around numerous activities such as the implementation of strategic documents and relevant legislation in the field of public administration reform, which should ultimately result in further improvement of the quality of services provided by public administration to citizens and the economy.

In the public administration reform, as one of the fundamental areas of the accession process, the EU participates in various ways. Particularly significant is the assistance provided by the EU to the Republic of Serbia through two Sector Budget Support programmes worth a total of EUR 110 million. Following the successful implementation of the first programme of EUR 80 million during the 2015–2022 period, the continuation of this assistance model has been secured in the amount of EUR 30 million for the 2022–2027 period. The support is also reflected in sending expert missions to assess the state in a specific area of public administration and providing recommendations for further progress, as well as through projects aimed at its modernisation.
