Miščević spoke with Swedish officials about the situation in the north of Kosovo

Minister of European Integration of Serbia Tanja Miščević said that on 30 May in Stockholm, she informed the Swedish officials about the situation in the north of Kosovo, adding that that was important so that they would get the whole picture in regard to what was happening and convey the information at the meeting of the European Union ministers.

Miščević, who arrived in Stockholm on the occasion of the opening of the “Applied Nostalgia” exhibition, said that she had used the opportunity to talk to Sweden’s Minister for European Affairs Jessica Roswell, who had gone straight to the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers from the opening, and that she had also informed the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the latest developments.

“We have explained what is actually happening because we have the impression that the whole picture, the entire context of everything that has led us to this in the last five days, is not understood in the best way – that we are talking about elections in which 3.5 per cent of citizens participated, that municipal buildings were entered with the use of special forces, that people protested, and finally, there was a use of force that was definitely excessive”, Miščević told reporters from Serbia.

The Minister said that she had informed the Swedish officials about the request for the release of the remaining two arrested persons and the complete withdrawal of the special forces from the north of Kosovo.

“That was the main topic but we also discussed the European integration process. Obviously, much more information was needed, which here, but I assume in other capitals of the member states, was not enough”, said the Minister.

Their reaction, she said, had been to continue efforts to de-escalate, calm tensions and “bring them to the level of conversation”.

“It is enough to convey the information to the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers, and that is already a significant way of communicating about this issue”, Miščević said.
