J. Joksimović: Slovakia advocates acceleration of Serbia’s European integration

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has met today with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Belgrade, Fedor Rosocha. They have discussed further strengthening of good bilateral relations, developments in Serbia’s European integration process, Slovakia’s support to Serbia’s European path and its active advocacy for the European perspective of the Western Balkans.

Rosocha has expressed hope that, even though the EU and member states’ current focus is on tackling the negative effects of the pandemic and on economic recovery, the announced postponement of the Progress Report will not slow down the pace of the opening of chapters with Serbia.

According to the Ministry of European Integration, Joksimović has expressed hope that, despite these unusual circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the EU, on its part, will affirm the credibility of the process and maintain the pace of the opening of new negotiation chapters for which Serbia is prepared at the technical level, by the end of the Croatian EU Council presidency.

Joksimović has thanked Slovakia for its principled position of respecting Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and for its consistent and continuous support to Serbia’s European path.

Rosocha has expressed his belief that Slovakia, as a sincere friend and reliable partner to Serbia, will continue to provide clear support to Serbia’s European path, while contributing to the credibility of the EU enlargement policy.

According to the Ministry’s statement, Joksimović has expressed her expectation that the appointment of Miroslav Lajčák as the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue will contribute to the improvement of the dialogue, adding that it is certainly a complex issue and process.

Joksimović and Rosocha have agreed that there is room for a stronger and more comprehensive cooperation with the Visegrad Group, which, in addition to being a strong advocate of enlargement, represents a good example of regional connectivity and cooperation.
