J. Joksimović: Cooperation with Hungary on overcoming the effects of COVID19

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has had a conference call today with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó.

Joksimović and Szijjártó have exchanged information on the measures being implemented in Serbia and Hungary regarding the fight against COVID-19. They have particularly discussed the problems many countries face in terms of purchasing medical equipment and the ways the two countries could cooperate in that regard.

Joksimović has informed Szijjártó about the situation in Serbia and presented the emergency measures that have been undertaken or are planned to be undertaken for the purpose of reducing the risk and establishing control over the further spread of COVID-19. She has also mentioned the macroeconomic and fiscal policy emergency measures that have been undertaken to support the economic sector, with a special focus on small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs, and to respond to the current negative effects of halting economic activity.

Szijjártó has commended the efforts that the Serbian Government has employed to stop the spread of the virus, and has extended his support for short-term measures undertaken to protect the citizens and economy. He has particularly commended the measures undertaken in the previous period, which have created an appropriate fiscal space for an ambitious plan of economic recovery.

Joksimović has informed Szijjártó about the EU assistance Serbia has received so far in the fight against COVID19, and about Serbia’s expectations that this support will grow in the following period and be aimed at strengthening the healthcare system, and particularly at achieving the socio-economic recovery of Serbia and its citizens. Joksimović, who is in constant contact with Szijjártó, has thanked Hungary for its support and cooperation.
