Starović at a Seminar on the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Novi Sad

Minister of European Integration in a technical mandate and Head of the Republic of Serbia’s Delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), Nemanja Starović, attended a seminar on the preservation of Jewish cemeteries at the Historical Archives of Novi Sad. The event was organised by the European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative (ESJF) in cooperation with the Jewish Community of Novi Sad and the Historical Archives of Novi Sad.

The seminar is dedicated to the protection and promotion of Jewish cultural heritage, with a particular focus on the preservation of cemeteries as important testaments to the history and life of Jewish communities. The programme is intended for museum experts, researchers of regional history and cultural heritage, teachers and students from Serbia.

Preservation of Jewish heritage is an important contribution to fostering a culture of remembrance, honouring the victims of Holocaust, and passing on knowledge to future generations. Cooperation between institutions and the professional community in this field contributes to the protection of shared cultural heritage and the strengthening of mutual understanding.

Since 2016, the European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative has contributed to the protection of 50 Jewish cemeteries in Serbia by installation of protective fences.
