Meeting in Kikinda on the City’s Future Development

Representatives of the City of Kikinda discussed future development priorities as part of the preparation of the Territorial Strategy for the Urban Area of Kikinda. The development of the Territorial Strategy is supported by the European Union through the EU Support to Integrated Territorial Development programme – EU INTEGRA, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration.

The programme is implemented by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). Under its component of the programme, UNOPS supports the development of ten territorial strategies and builds capacities to apply integrated territorial development instruments in line with EU Cohesion Policy.

These instruments provide an opportunity to connect and activate the city’s significant development potential, preserve and enhance the features that make Kikinda distinctive, and create space for new activities, knowledge, innovation and economic development. The Territorial Strategy helps translate this potential into concrete ideas and projects that will improve residents’ quality of life.

“Development of the Territorial Strategy, Kikinda has an opportunity to consider its potential and residents’ needs in an integrated way and identify development interventions that complement one another. Through EU INTEGRA, we support this process in ten territories, building on the integrated territorial development model piloted through EU PRO Plus,” said Viktor Veljović, Capacity Development Manager within the UNOPS-implemented component of EU INTEGRA.

Pupils from the “Đura Jakšić” and “Feješ Klara” primary schools also took part in the strategy development process, sharing their visions of Kikinda’s future through the “My City in the Future” art competition.
