EU Opportunities Week officially opened today in Belgrade, with remarks delivered by Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath and Assistant Minister of European Integration Miroslav Gačević.
On that occasion, Gačević stated that the European integration process was already bringing tangible benefits to Serbia's citizens and economy. He particularly highlighted the importance of achievements made so far in the European integration process, such as the introduction of the SEPA system for faster and cheaper money transfers to the EU for citizens and businesses in Serbia, as well as initiatives to abolish roaming charges with the EU and to improve trade through the ACAA, in order to further facilitate business operations and connectivity with the European Union market.
The Assistant Minister of European Integration also highlighted the importance of EU support for local and regional development, noting that more than 2,500 such projects had been financed across Serbia and the region to date.
“Institutions of the Government of Serbia are participating in the events within the European Opportunities Week, as it represents another important platform for informing, exchanging experiences and strengthening cooperation," concluded Miroslav Gačević.
EU Opportunities Week is being held for the third time, this year from 20 to 23 April in Belgrade, Kragujevac and Novi Pazar, and is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia and the Europe House, in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The programme in Belgrade covers topics of business and innovation, culture and civil society, while in Kragujevac it focuses on local development and the green transition, and in Novi Pazar on youth, education and sport. The aim is to present concrete opportunities, programmes and partnerships that the European Union offers to citizens, institutions and local communities in Serbia.
