The Government of the Republic of Serbia and the United Nations Country Team in Serbia signed today a new Cooperation Framework for the 2026–2030 period. This strategic document defines the key priorities for joint work on the country’s further development, modernisation, and improved quality of life for all citizens.
On behalf of the Government of Serbia, the Agreement was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić, and on behalf of the United Nations, by the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Serbia, Matilde Mordt. During the signing ceremony, it was emphasised that this document represents more than an administrative act; it is a symbol of a shared vision of Serbia as a greener, healthier and more inclusive country.
The successful cooperation to date will continue in areas jointly identified as priorities:
1. Green and resilient development: Low-carbon and inclusive growth fully aligned with nature protection,
2. Human capital: Direct investment in the well-being of citizens, as the most valuable resource that Serbia possesses,
3. Strengthening institutions: The rule of law and the building of accountable institutions that form the foundation of justice and security.
Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović, who attended the signing of the Agreement, stated that for Serbia, the United Nations remained the most important international organisation. In a world full of challenges, the role of the UN in maintaining peace, protecting human rights, and fostering sustainable development is more important today than ever before.
Starović highlighted the link between the programme and Serbia’s European Union accession process. “The goals we are signing today are deeply connected with our European path. We are not implementing reforms solely to meet set criteria, but in order to adapt the UN’s global goals to our priorities and improve the quality of life of all our citizens.”
The Government of Serbia expressed its gratitude to the UN Country Team for the technical expertise and dedication shown so far, noting that innovation and inclusiveness will be the guiding principles in the implementation of this five-year plan.
