EU INTEGRA advances integrated territorial development with 11 newly approved applications for development of territorial strategies

The Programme Steering Committee of the EU INTEGRA – EU Support to Integrated Territorial Development programme, financed by the European Union and implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration, has approved the results of the public call for technical assistance for the development of territorial strategies. As a result, eleven territories across Serbia will receive support through the UNOPS-led programme component, which aims to further strengthen the capacity of local self-governments to plan and implement integrated and sustainable territorial development.

Of the eleven supported territorial strategies, five focus on individual cities, while six target wider functional areas encompassing multiple local self-governments. These strategies are developed through partnerships among cities, municipalities, and regional development agencies, encouraging joint development planning aligned with shared territorial challenges and development potentials.

"The Ministry of European Integration, with the support of the European Union, continuously works to strengthen the capacities of local communities and plan their development in accordance with their needs, challenges and potentials. The development of territorial strategies is an important step in that direction as they facilitate recognizing the economic, social and spatial potential of urban and functional areas, as well as in determining priority development activities," said Mira Radenović Bojić, State Secretary in the Ministry of European Integration. As she added, through programmes such as EU INTEGRA and EU PRO Plus, through which an integrated territorial approach to development was initiated, local self-governments are being modernised and prepared for more efficient future use of funds from the European Union funds available to member states.

“By supporting the development of territorial strategies in line with EU Cohesion Policy principles, we help local governments in Serbia plan long-term development based on the real needs of their citizens. This approach ensures that investments deliver the greatest impact—through better public services, new economic opportunities, environmental protection, and an improved quality of life,” said Andreas von Beckerath, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia.

These eleven territories were selected through the EU INTEGRA Public Call. The full list of approved projects is available on the website of the programme
