17th Meeting of the European Union–Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC)

The 17th meeting of the European Union–Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC) was held at the House of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. The meeting was opened by the SAPC co-chairs, Milimir Vujadinović and Loucas Fourlas.

Vujadinović emphasised that the meeting was an opportunity to discuss important aspects of Serbia’s EU accession process, which remained the political commitment of the country and all its institutions. “I hope the discussion will help us better understand the overall state of this process, through different perspectives – which is precisely the purpose of this meeting: exchanging opinions and finding the best solutions,” he said.

Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Ambassador Andreas von Beckerath, underlined the key role of the National Assembly in implementing European reforms and monitoring their implementation. “The European Union has proven to be a reliable partner to Serbia, as seen during the floods, the pandemic, and the energy crisis. Today, we support Serbia in diversifying its energy sources and strengthening its connection to the European energy network. We expect Serbia to accelerate reforms and gradually reduce its dependence on Russian gas,” he said.

The participants were also addressed by Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović and Ambassador of Denmark Pernille Dahler Kardel speaking on behalf of the Danish EU Council Presidency.

The discussion covered the state of accession negotiations and Clusters 1 (Fundamentals) and 4 (Green Agenda), with reference to the current political situation in Serbia.

The meeting of the European Union–Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee will continue tomorrow, focusing on Serbia’s alignment with the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the continuation of the Belgrade–Priština dialogue under EU mediation. In addition, Members of Parliament will discuss issues of economic development and other current topics, and determine the date and venue of the next SAPC meeting.
