At the opening of the European House in Belgrade, EU Ambassador to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret stated that it was not just the doors of a building being opened on that day but numerous opportunities for Serbia’s integration into the EU, along with the exchange of ideas and innovations.
In his opening speech, he mentioned that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, had formed a team and would soon present a commissioner for enlargement.
“We are working on expanding resources and hope this house will contribute to that goal. We need to have discussions with each other in order to move forward,” Giaufret said.
He emphasised that the European House was a “living headquarters” for people to exchange ideas about Europe’s future. Giaufret believes that the opening of the European House will contribute to the process of understanding and communication among open-minded people.
“All our partners are here with us, which is the purpose of the European House. It is a place for everyone where initiatives will be developed, and EU values such as democracy, diversity, and tolerance will be celebrated,” Giaufret added.
According to the Minister of European Integration Tanja Miščević, the European House is a place where everyone comes together with the idea and goal of “living under the same roof.”
“The European House is a meeting place and a space for learning new skills,” Miščević said.
She added that panels would be organised at the European House to seek solutions for accelerating Serbia’s EU integration process.
The European House is located at the corner of Knez Mihailova and Zmaj Jovina streets and is envisioned as a centre for creativity, innovation, and cooperation. Plans are underway to open European Houses in Novi Sad, Niš, Kragujevac, and Novi Pazar.
