Minister of European Integration Tanja Miščević spoke today with Minister for European Union Affairs of Hungary János Bóka about the relations and a continuation of the cooperation between the two friendly countries in Serbia’s European Union accession process, especially in regard to Hungary’s EU Presidency in the second half of 2024.
Miščević expressed her gratitude to her colleague Bóka for the fact that Hungary was Serbia’s friend among the European Union Member States, and that it had for many years supported Serbia on its path to European Union membership.
These good relations are certainly reflected in the very developed bilateral economic and political cooperation, according to the press release.
As regards reforms, Minister Miščević spoke about the reforms that were currently being undertaken and implemented in the area of the rule of law: in the judiciary, in the area of media freedom after the adoption of laws on public information and media, and with respect to electronic media, primarily through the adoption of by-laws and their implementation.
Speaking about the European Commission's 2023 Report on Serbia, Miščević said that Serbia would implement the EC recommendations from the Report, adding that an assessment of the interim benchmarks for Chapters 23 and 24 would be carried out in due course.
Minister Bóka said that Europe was currently facing many serious problems, such as the war in Ukraine, the energy product supply and the economic crises, which must be reflected in the EU enlargement policy.
“It is exactly for this reason that our cooperation and connection is all the more important today. Hungary is an advocate for the enlargement of the European Union and an ally to the countries of the Western Balkans, but Serbia is our friend. You clearly have a lot of work ahead on this path, but Hungary's support to Serbia is unambiguous”, concluded Minister Bóka.
