Millionth passenger at the Nakovo–Lunga crossing

Today, the city of Kikinda marked the crossing of the millionth passenger at the Nakovo–Lunga border crossing since its permanent opening in 2014.

The event was attended by the mayor of Kikinda, Nikola Lukač, representatives of the Ministry of European Integration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, North Banat administrative district, Border Police and Customs Administration of the Republic of Serbia, Embassy of Romania, and Border Police of Romania.

The international Nakovo–Lunga border crossing was officially permanently opened on 8 November 2014, which significantly improved the cross-border cooperation of the City of Kikinda with the neighbouring border towns, especially Timișoara. Since then, nine cross-border projects have been implemented, the most important of which are precisely those related to this border crossing. The missing infrastructure at the border crossing Nakovo was built, followed by the bicycle path from Kikinda to the border crossing, and 1,800 meters of the state road to this border was reconstructed. Currently, the implementation of two more cross-border projects, in the field of emergency situations and healthcare, and the procurement of a multi-purpose water tank, firefighting equipment and more equipped ambulances with medical equipment are underway.

Taking into account all the benefits that citizens on both sides of the border have from the Nakovo–Lunga border crossing, its opening was a turning point in the further economic recovery and development of the largest city in Northern Banat.
