Labus gives student booklets to Novi Pazar University students

Belgrade/Novi Pazar, Oct 3, 2005 – Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Serbian negotiating team with the EU Miroljub Labus, as a part of the ”Europe Knocks on Your Door” campaign, today gave student booklets to the new generation of students of the Novi Pazar Faculty of Law.

Addressing the first year students of the Novi Pazar Faculty of Law, Labus said that the students have made the right choice and that the law profession is a good profession, because today if you cannot realise and defend your rights in the court of law, there is no economic security.



Also visiting the faculty were head of the European Commission’s delegation to Serbia-Montenegro Josep Lloveras, British Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro David Gowan, Director of the Serbian government's EU Integration Office Tanja Miscevic and Serbian Minister of Religion Milan Radulovic.



The Serbian government delegation, European Commission representatives and the British Ambassador will meet later today with representatives of the local self-government and businessmen from the Sandzak region, while the round table discussion themed “Role of religious communities in the EU integration process” will be organised in cooperation with the religious communities’ representatives.



The delegation will also speak with Novi Pazar high school students on Serbia’s European perspective and the advantages of joining the EU.



During the visit, representatives of the non-governmental sector in Sandzak and the Serbian government’s EU Integration Office signed a Memorandum of Understanding.



Director of the EU Integration Office Tanja Miscevic said that the aim of the Memorandum is for the government and the non-governmental sector to jointly work on the EU integration process, above all on the realisation of basic human rights, the protection of children’s rights and gender equality, which are fundamental principles of the European Union.



Miscevic announced that the EU Integration Office will assist in the building of Serbia’s civil society, through the support of EU funds.
