Meeting of the Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security Held

The Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom, and Security is meeting today and tomorrow in Belgrade. This meeting between representatives of the European Commission and institutions of the Republic of Serbia is held annually and is one of the most significant for the regular and transparent exchange of information and for monitoring progress in reforms within the EU accession process.

Over the course of the two-day technical dialogue, more than 40 institutions of the Republic of Serbia, including ministries and government bodies, as well as independent and regulatory bodies, will participate. The meeting aims to present all necessary facts that will enable the European Commission to draft the annual Progress Report on the Republic of Serbia, the biannual Rule of Law Report, and another report under the EU Rule of Law Mechanism. Discussions will also cover the monitoring of fulfilment of recommendations from other bodies whose assessments are used by the European Commission in preparing the annual report, including: ODIHR, GRECO, GRETA, MONEYVAL, IOM, and others. All meetings are open to representatives of EU Member States.

In addition to the regular meetings, representatives of the European Commission are using their stay in Belgrade for further discussions on the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans and the implementation of Serbia’s Reform Agenda. This is also an opportunity to clarify mechanisms and technical aspects related to the implementation of the Growth Plan.
