Competition for Best Student Papers on EU for 2024 Announced

The Ministry of European Integration of the Republic of Serbia is announcing a competition for the best individual student papers on Serbia’s European integration and EU accession process. The aim of this competition is to directly involve young academic citizens in an open argumentative debate on important aspects of the accession process and membership of the Republic of Serbia in the European Union.

The papers should answer one of the following six questions:

1. “Moving Forward After All!” or “After All, Are We Moving Forward?” The European Union Accession Process of the Western Balkans and the Republic of Serbia: Can Serbia Remain and Survive Outside the EU?

2. EU and Gender Equality

3. Economic Benefits and Challenges of Serbia’s European Integration

4. EU Growth Plan as an Opportunity for Western Balkans’ Approximation to the European Union

5. Rule of Law in Light of the Current EU Negotiation Methodology: Potential for Serbia’s Progress?

6. Why Do Crises Strengthen the EU?

The committee of experts, composed of professors from the University of Belgrade, will assess the quality of submitted papers. The authors of the three top-ranked papers will receive prizes worth RSD 110,000, RSD 80,000, and RSD 60,000, respectively. In addition to the three top-ranked papers, the Ministry will publish other papers that meet the competition criteria in its electronic collection.

In addition to the monetary prizes awarded by the Ministry of European Integration, this year, in collaboration with the Jacques Delors Institute’s Grande Europe centre from Paris and the Embassy of the Republic of France in Serbia, a special award – the “Jacques Delors” – will be presented for the first time as part of this competition. This award includes funding (travel and per diems) for a study visit to Paris for one author.

The competition is open to students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate academic programmes at all universities in the Republic of Serbia.

The deadline for the submission of papers is 1 July 2024.
