Today at the plenary session of the National Convention on the EU, Minister of European Integration Tanja Miščević stated that Serbia is not neutral on the issue of the war in Ukraine, adding that aligning with the EU’s foreign policy cannot be viewed only through percentages but also through other elements.
“Even that percentage, according to your estimates, has started to grow, which is good, but we also insist on other elements of cooperation in the joint foreign and security policy, which also refers to the level of involvement in peacekeeping missions”, Miščević said in the National Assembly of Serbia.
She pointed out that the law on involvement in civilian missions is currently under consideration by the ministries.
“It is the first time in the region and the first of all the candidate countries to allow not only soldiers and police but also those who have expertise in improving rural development to be involved in civilian missions and thus help these areas”, Miščević pointed out.
She reminded that Serbia is still waiting for the screening report in the area of alignment with foreign policy, i.e. for Chapter 31.
Miščević said that discussions with civil society organisations on the rule of law, but also on energy and environmental protection, would continue.
Speaking about the involvement of civil society organisations in the law-adoption process, Miščević called on organisations to monitor the “e-consultation” portal, because, as she noted, there is no response from civil society to the law texts.
“Public debate is a step forward, even when the discussion is over it is not the end. Each of these laws must be consulted with the European Commission. And that refers to the elaborated text of the law, followed by information on the course of the public debate and consultations, with the obligation to disclose which contributions from the civil society organisations were included in the new draft and which were not, with relevant justification”, Miščević explained.
The Minister pointed out that there is no room for anyone to be left out.
