“Applied Nostalgia” exhibition now open in Prague

Today in the Czech Academy of Sciences the “Applied Nostalgia: Belgrade – Prague” exhibition was opened; it shows the capitals of Serbia and the Czech Republic, seen through the lenses of photographers Snežana Krstić and David Těšínský.

The exhibition was opened in Prague, in the presence of the diplomatic corps and the media, by acting Assistant Minister of European Integration of Serbia Miroslav Gačević, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Martin Košatka and member of the Council of the Czech Academy of Sciences David Honys.

“It is my honour to open an exhibition of photographs from the new 22nd cycle of our long-standing “Applied Nostalgia” project dedicated to Belgrade and Prague, here in Prague today. We opened the same exhibition in Belgrade on 25 November, and today we are here owing to the cooperation with the ministries of foreign affairs of the Czech Republic and Serbia and the Czech Academy of Sciences,” said Miroslav Gačević, pointing out that the exhibition, from an artistic aspect, contributes to the improvement of the otherwise good bilateral relations between Serbia and the Czech Republic.

“Relations between our two countries have always been mutually important to us in the cultural, political, and economic segments, and above all cooperation in the field of European integration and the European future of Serbia and its citizens. By consistently implementing reforms in the European Union accession process, Serbia has shown that it is fully committed to the highest European values, that it is committed to the concept of Europe as a common cultural, economic, democratic area, and space of peace,” emphasised Gačević.

Martin Košatka congratulated the authors on their excellent photographs, which according to him managed to faithfully convey the spirit of both Prague and Belgrade.

“I would like to thank the Ministry of European Integration for an extremely clever idea that is an excellent link between Serbia and EU countries. I am glad that in the photographs I recognise the influence that Czech architects left on the architecture of Belgrade,” said Košatka and added that the Western Balkans is a priority of the Czech EU Council presidency, as well as that Serbia can count on the support of the Czech Republic on its way to the EU.

In his address, David Honys pointed out that he is happy that the Czech Academy of Sciences opened the door for such a good exhibition of two exceptional photographers.

“Applied Nostalgia” is an exhibition organised by the Ministry of European Integration of Serbia on the occasion of the rotating presidencies of EU member states in the EU Council, where all the similarities of European values and the way of life characterising Belgrade and other capitals on the European continent are presented.

The “Applied Nostalgia: Belgrade – Prague” exhibition is open in Prague until 16 December 2022.
