J. Joksimović and Cochard: About the Summit of the European Political Community in Prague

Today, Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has spoken with Ambassador of France to Belgrade Pierre Cochard about Serbia’s EU accession and about activities related to the upcoming summit of the new initiative of the European Political Community to be held this week in Prague, in which Serbia will participate.

Cochard has agreed with the minister that the European Political Community is not an alternative to EU membership, saying that the primary goal of this French initiative is to promote greater political, security, and energy integration on the European continent and the vicinity.

“In that sense, the participation of Serbia, as an EU membership candidate, will be of exceptional importance in the discussions related to current strategic issues such as the supply of energy and food, ecological transition, and new investments,” the French ambassador has said.

At the summit of the European Political Community in Prague, initiated by France, 44 countries will participate - EU member states, EU accession candidates, as well as numerous other countries from the European continent and from the European neighbourhood.

The minister has assessed that this gathering of states, as a new broad platform for dialogue, is actually a way to further improve the cooperation of all those interested in preserving the stability, security, and progress of the European continent.

“Serbia is interested in contributing with its participation and proposals to finding sustainable solutions for the overall stability and sustainability of the entire European continent,” Joksimović has stressed.

Joksimović and Cochard have also discussed good bilateral relations, agreeing that there is room for additional strengthening of development cooperation between the French Development Agency and the Ministry of European Integration, especially in areas of importance for the process of European integration and sustainable development, as stated in the MEI press release.
