The EP and rapporteur Vladimír Bilčík’s report, as well as the statements of Viola von Cramon, only show how great the misunderstanding is of the political elites in the EU countries regarding our position and that there is no sincere desire to try to look at opportunities from “someone else’s shoes”, Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has stated today.
“Partly due to this kind of repeated rhetoric, which shows a complete lack of political tact towards the circumstances that built the Serbian European political discourse in a different way, European integration suffers in terms of popularity and support among our citizens,” Joksimović has said when asked by Tanjug to comment on the statements of Bilčík and von Cramon in the EP.
“At the moment when Serbia was the only one to accept the new accession methodology in a serious way, when it made a breakthrough progress regarding the rule of law and opened cluster 4 on the Green Agenda, without complaining about the fact that in the midst of more than half of the open chapters, we switched to the new one, everything has been forgotten and now we are talking only and exclusively about aligning with the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy,” Joksimović has stressed.
She has emphasised that, to some extent, this is to be expected, it is clear to us that this has become the new political credo, but the approach and narrative of some European MPs show that they do not appreciate all the efforts that Serbia has made in the previous decade in the direction of a clear and unambiguous European orientation.
“Serbia will both increase its reform activities and firmly hold the helm of the European future, and it would not hurt if some European politicians showed a little more faith and respect for the European future of our country,” Joksimović has concluded.
