J. Joksimović and EU ambassadors on fight against COVID-19

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has had a video call with EU member states’ ambassadors. They have discussed the matters important for the relations between the Republic of Serbia and the EU, and current developments regarding the EU and member states’ assistance to Serbia for overcoming the effects of the pandemic, as stated by the Ministry of European Integration.

On the occasion, they emphasised the importance of a joint European response and EU’s solidarity with candidate countries, such as abolishing the decision on limiting export of medical equipment and the inclusion of candidate countries in future EU funds that will be intended for the economic recovery from the crisis. In this regard, it has been stressed that, in the forthcoming period, Serbia will continue to follow the implementation of current EU measures and their adjustment to further economic developments subject to the crisis.

Joksimović has emphasised that the efficiency of European solidarity and joint European response mechanisms is extremely important, given that Serbia is in a contractual relation with the EU. This relation also gives ground for increasing the comprehensive EU assistance and support, primarily regarding the economic programme that is aimed at protecting investments. She has also thanked the European Union for hearing and understanding Serbia’s messages with regard to providing emergency support for the preservation of existential needs of Serbian citizens, healthcare system and economy.

The interlocutors have agreed that the Government of the Republic of Serbia has timely responded to the new situation caused by the pandemic and that it has undertaken appropriate health, preventive and economic measures, which are in accordance with the measures applied in the EU. They have also emphasised that, despite the emergency situation, the accession process should be preserved and continued.
