J. Joksimović and Samuelsen: Denmark supports credible EU enlargement policy

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Anders Samuelsen. They have discussed Serbia’s plans in further EU accession process, effects of the implementation of reforms, circumstances in the region, bilateral relations and other important topics.

Jadranka Joksimović has informed the Danish head of diplomacy on the activities undertaken in the European integration process, stressing that the EU should keep the credible enlargement policy high on its agenda if it wishes to become stronger and more competitive at the global level.

She has recalled that EU membership is a strategic foreign policy goal of the Serbian Government and that the reforms that are being implemented aim at improving the standard and the quality of citizens’ life.

In that sense, she has particularly emphasised the importance of reforms under chapters 23 and 24 related to the rule of law, stating that the progress achieved in these as well as other chapters should contribute to the opening of new chapters by the end of the Austrian EU Council presidency.

The Minister has informed Samuelsen that the EU Member States would thus show that, based on clearly established procedures and criteria, they value Serbia’s activities in the European integration process.

The Minister of European Integration has specified that Serbia is committed to the dialogue that is aimed at finding a sustainable compromise solution that will contribute to the normalisation of the situation, adding that unilateral moves made by Pristina have undermined the dialogue.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Anders Samuelsen has said that Serbia has a clear support of Denmark in the process of EU accession negotiations.

He believes that negotiations with Serbia should be based on clear criteria - the so-called Copenhagen criteria. He has particularly stressed the importance of chapters 23 and 24, adding that reforms should be continued so as to yield even better results.

The Danish head of diplomacy has commended Belgrade’s active and constructive role in addressing the problems important for the EU, as well as Serbia’s contribution to regional stability.
