Minister of European Integration Tanja Miščević stated today that Serbia had “translated and transposed” the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into the chapters of the European Union (EU) negotiations, and their elements were encompassed by the alignment with EU law.
At a consultative meeting on the Cooperation Framework between the UN and the Government of Serbia, Tanja Miščević emphasised that a lot of work was being done in partnership and that numerous projects and activities were being implemented.
“A better, more comprehensive, and stronger implementation of what we are jointly working on is particularly important,” Miščević highlighted.
The meeting was organised as the current cooperation between the UN and the Government of Serbia is coming to an end, and a new strategic framework is being planned for the following five years.
The existing framework (2021–2025), with a total value of EUR 365 million, has been crucial for aligning with Serbia’s development goals, emphasising the green economy, human potential development, and strengthening the rule of law.
“In a rapidly changing world, our task is to find a path that will not only address current challenges but also prepare the ground for future opportunities,” said the UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia, Matilde Mordt.
According to announcements, the next phase will focus on addressing Serbia’s development challenges while simultaneously supporting EU accession-related reforms.
The United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the 2015 summit. Its 17 goals include economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection.
