Slovenia strongly supports Serbia’s EU membership negotiations

Minister of European Integration Tanja Miščević met today with the delegation of the State Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia’s Friendship Group with Serbia, which is on an official visit to Serbia.

The delegation of the Slovenian Parliament, led by the President of the Group, Lena Grgurevič, conveyed Slovenia’s support for Serbia’s European path, adding that Slovenia had been actively supporting Serbia’s EU accession for many years. In this context, Slovenian expert assistance to Serbia has been ongoing since the very beginning of Serbia's EU accession process, practically since 2006 until today. Miščević thanked Slovenia for its help, evaluating the cooperation as good, and every Slovenian experience as precious.

Miščević spoke about the main priorities of the Government in the implementation of reforms, especially in the area of the rule of law, media laws (developing a media strategy) and energy, adding that it would be of great importance to open cluster 3 by the end of the year, for which we had been ready for almost two years.

Minister Miščević informed the interlocutors about the current developments in Kosovo and Metohija, stressing that the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities was necessary in order to ensure the collective legal protection of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.

The Slovenian MPs reiterated that they were strongly in favour of Serbia becoming a full member of the EU, noting that they were aware of the complexity of the process itself. In this regard, they have once again offered all the necessary assistance along the way.
