J. Joksimović: Cooperation between Serbia and EIB on Connectivity Agenda for Western Balkans

Minister of European Integration and National IPA Coordinator Jadranka Joksimović has spoken today with the newly appointed Head of the EIB Regional Representation for the Western Balkans, Alessandro Bragonzi, about projects important for the economic and social development of Serbia, which are prepared and realised through the cooperation between the Serbian Government and the EIB.

Joksimović and Bragonzi have analysed the current status of projects in priority areas for further accelerated and sustainable development of Serbia, particularly in the areas of transport, energy and environmental protection, as support to the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, improvement of education and health, and urban development.

The Minister has emphasised the financial assistance Serbia has received through the EIB from the EU, this time in the form of favourable loans, stressing the importance of those investments as support to achieving the goals of regional connectivity and the Green Agenda.

“Investments coming from the Western Balkans Investment Framework that are extremely important for us and for the entire region, as well as for infrastructural connectivity with the EU, are the construction of motorway Niš–Merdare, modernisation of the railway line Niš–Dimitrovgrad, and gas interconnection with Bulgaria”, said Joksimović.

She has added that Serbia is highly engaged and that it is responsibly working on the realisation of those projects.

Bragonzi has expressed his belief that the EIB and the Serbian Government will continue to cooperate on the realisation of the Connectivity Agenda for the Western Balkans, particularly on projects that will contribute to reaching the goals of the Green Agenda, as one of the key policies both of the EU and Serbia.
