J. Joksimović: Active cooperation with OSCE on rule of law

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has met today with the newly appointed Head of OSCE Mission to Serbia, Ambassador Jan Braathu. They have discussed Serbia’s European integration process, primarily the Serbian Government’s reform activities aimed at the acceleration of accession negotiations.

According to the MEI press release, Joksimović has informed Ambassador Braathu about Serbia’s readiness to continue EU membership negotiations under the new methodology, whose details will soon be published by the European Commission.

“We are convinced that the new way of conducting negotiations, which implies additional political responsibility of both sides, will contribute to a faster and full alignment with the EU laws and standards”, said Joksimović.

The interlocutors have agreed that the OSCE Mission is an important partner not only to the institutions of the Republic of Serbia, but also to civil society organisations and media, in strengthening democracy in Serbia.

They have particularly discussed OSCE’s expert assistance in the implementation of projects in the area of the rule of law, human rights, democratisation, and the implementation of regulations on the work of the media.

“Each of these areas is vital for Serbia’s further progress on its European path, and therefore, we are indisputably committed to cooperating with the OSCE Mission in the future as well”, said Joksimović.
