Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has stated today that the construction of the Trans-Balkan corridor is an important step in the reform process within the European integration of Serbia and the region.
Joksimović has stressed that they have worked on this vital project for a long time, in cooperation with European partners and development partners in the area of energy, i.e. with Germany through cooperation with the German Development Bank (KfW).
“Every project we realise from the funds coming from EU taxpayers, combined with credit lines and our budget, is an important segment in the energy system. Projects are now particularly important in terms of the new cluster methodology”, said Joksimović upon signing the Agreement on the allocation of investment funds for Obrenovac – Bajina Bašta section within the Trans-Balkan corridor.
She has stressed that the project is an important part of cluster 4 related to transport and infrastructural connectivity, Green Agenda, climate change and digitisation.
Joksimović has stated that, within cluster 4, chapter 15 is crucial as it relates to energy, which is a highly demanding area.
“This means that Serbia, as a candidate for EU membership and as part of the Southeast Europe energy community, has undertaken the obligation to reform and improve the energy market, to connect its energy market with markets not only in the region but also in EU countries”, said Joksimović.
She has emphasised that the Trans-Balkan corridor, i.e. the vital section from Obrenovac to Bajina Bašta, has been granted a significant financial assistance from European partners through the Western Balkan Investment Fund.
According to Joksimović, EUR 12.8 million grant has been signed today for Obrenovac – Bajina Bašta section, while EUR 39 million will be provided for the remainder of the section through favourable credit lines of the German Development Bank (KfW).
“The Trans-Balkan corridor is an important topic for our economy and citizens, as this is the way we will ensure safe supply, minimal transmission costs, and connect our energy market with the EU energy market”, concluded Joksimović.
