Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union translated into Serbian

The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which was proclaimed by the European Parliament, the Council of Ministers and the European Commission in 2000 and which became legally binding in the EU when the Lisbon Treaty entered into force in 2009, has been officially translated into the Serbian language and is now available on the Ministry’s website.

The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union recognises the following six fundamental rights and freedoms protected in the EU: dignity, freedoms, equality, solidarity, citizens’ rights and justice.

“The Union contributes to the preservation and to the development of these common values while respecting the diversity of the cultures and traditions of the peoples of Europe as well as the national identities of the Member States and the organisation of their public authorities at national, regional and local levels; it seeks to promote balanced and sustainable development and ensures free movement of persons, services, goods and capital, and the freedom of establishment,” states the Charter.

The document has been translated by the Ministry of European Integration in cooperation with the Republic Secretariat for Legislation and other state authorities responsible for individual areas covered by the Charter.
