J. Joksimović and V4 ambassadors: EU enlargement policy – priority of the Visegrad Group

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has met with the ambassadors of the countries comprising the Visegrad Group – Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland. They have discussed the relations and continued cooperation between Serbia and V4 members, European integration, the region, bilateral relations and other important topics.

The Minister has thanked the Visegrad Group countries for their significant and comprehensive assistance through which they support Serbia’s accession process, adding that they are strong advocates of enlargement in the EU, particularly regarding Serbia. She has also emphasised that these countries’ experiences are invaluable for Serbia, particularly from the period when they were EU candidates as Serbia is currently.

Minister Joksimović has informed the V4 ambassadors on the fact that Serbia is generally satisfied with the European Commission Report, although it contains political assessments that contributed to creating the wrong impression that Serbia has not progressed sufficiently in the accession process. She has also confirmed that Serbia will acknowledge and implement all serious remarks made by the European Commission.

Expecting that Serbia will open at least two out of five chapters prepared at the technical level before the end of the Romanian EU Council presidency, the Minister of European Integration has reaffirmed Serbia’s commitment to reform implementation. She has reiterated that Belgrade is ready to continue the dialogue when Pristina abolishes the illegitimate decision on the introduction of taxes on goods from Central Serbia.

Jadranka Joksimović and V4 ambassadors have talked about the initiative launched during the visit of Slovak Prime Minister Pellegrini to hold a meeting in the format V4 1 – Serbia. The idea is to improve and advance communication among the countries, particularly in the European integration process, as well as in the field of security, infrastructure, high technology and culture.

The ambassadors have reiterated that the policy of EU enlargement to the Western Balkans is an important priority task of V4, which understands that this process is a vital and important EU policy. They have stressed that the Visegrad Group countries will actively continue to support Serbia’s European integration process, that the results of the reforms are visible as is Serbia’s commitment to accession.

Minister Joksimović and her interlocutors have confirmed that cooperation between Serbia and V4 countries in Serbia’s European integration process will continue through models defined in memoranda of cooperation.
