Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has met with the representatives of the EU Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) – with Head of Unit for Serbia Catherine Wendt leading the delegation. They discussed the European Commission Report and the relations between Serbia and the EU during the accession process.

Jadranka Joksimović has informed the members of DG NEAR delegation on the European Commission Report. She has emphasised that this year the Report has received huge media attention and that all relevant political actors – President of the Republic, Prime Minister, line ministers, the National Assembly, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Convention on the EU, have discussed the content of the Report, which has demonstrated Serbia’s readiness to accept recommendations in a constructive and responsible way, as well as to express its own views and arguments.

Joksimović has expressed her expectation that the Directorate will remain part of the European Commission in the new composition, with the same capacities, structure and influence. According to her, this will contribute to the enlargement process and therefore to Serbia’s European integration.

Jadranka Joksimović has stressed that the visit to Belgrade is a great opportunity to improve mutual cooperation at the technical level, which will allow Serbia to better prepare for the continuation of the negotiation process and membership. She has added that the Ministry of European Integration and the Negotiating Team will continue to work devotedly so as to achieve positive results in the accession process.

Head of Unit for Serbia Catherine Wendt has underlined that it is very important that the Directorate delegation came to Serbia, because improving the already good cooperation is one of the main goals of the visit. She has stressed that more time should be spent in Serbia to get a better insight into the European integration process and the implementation of reforms. Wendt has also pointed to the need to improve exchange of information so as to advance the process of European integration.
