J. Joksimović: Self-proclaimed opposition leaders’ attack on democratic values and order in Serbia

“After a decade-long destruction of Serbia in which some of the self-proclaimed leaders of the current opposition actively participated, Serbia, with President Aleksandar Vučić at the forefront, has begun to take shape of a serious country that is economically stabilising, advancing in its reforms, that is producing stability at the internal and international level, and that today is a respectable, actively cooperative and responsible European country”, Minister of European Integration and SNS official Jadranka Joksimović has stated today.

Answering Tanjug’s question about the opposition’s intention to intrude into the Presidential Building, Joksimović has said that those who have decided to bring chaos, unrest and undemocratic violence against institutions and citizens, at a time of a heightened need for stability and united inner strength of Serbia to respond to the challenges placed before it, have revealed their role.

“The last night’s incursion of the leaders of Alliance for Serbia (SZS) and ‘1 in 5 million’ movement into the RTS building is an attempt at a violent occupation of the Public Broadcasting Service and attack on its journalists and employees and has revealed the undemocratic nature and violent plans of the self-proclaimed opposition leaders”, assessed the Minister.

Joksimović has said that violence as a substitute for arguments and unpreparedness for a democratic match has shown true intentions of this group of so-called leaders of the opposition that is ideologically divided, but on the other hand, clearly united in the fact that they do not understand and want for a democratic and respectably empowered Serbia, that they are ready to undermine fundamental democratic values and international position of Serbia in this sensitive moment for their individual interests.

“I am convinced that the majority of Serbian citizens, having experience from the past, maturely appreciate and particularly expect from the political elite to provide peace, prosperity and a better European future for Serbia”, stressed Joksimović.

“I expect that competent authorities will act in accordance with their powers and protect the democratic values in our country”, concluded Joksimović.
