J. Joksimović and Mondoloni: Deepening cooperation in numerous areas - expression of partnership

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has met with French Ambassador to Serbia Frédéric Mondoloni. They have discussed the continuation of Serbia’s European integration process, the reform process, circumstances in the region, the intensification of bilateral relations and other issues.

Joksimović has thanked France for the overall assistance and support it has been providing to Serbia in the process of European integration. She has stressed that Serbia is technically prepared to open several chapters, and that it expects to open some of them during the Romanian EU Council presidency.

The Minister has emphasised that Serbia pays special attention to reforms in the accession process. In that sense, she and Mondoloni have agreed that Chapters 23 and 24, related to the rule of law, are very important for the development of the society and the state as a whole and for further affirmation of democratic values, i.e. that the reforms in these areas are the most demanding. France has noted Serbia’s progress in these areas, and encourages it to intensify the related reforms.

Ambassador Mondoloni has said that France will continue to support the European integration process of Serbia - which is one of Paris’ most important partners in the region. Serbia has shown that it is a reliable partner of the EU and that it seeks to resolve open issues in the region in a responsible manner. It is therefore perceived as an important factor of regional stability and as a state that contributes to European security. Mondoloni has stressed that France, therefore, greatly appreciates Serbia's contribution to European security, as confirmed by Serbia's significant participation in EU peacekeeping missions and by the fact that Serbia was the first in the region to begin with the preparations for civilian missions.

Joksimović and Mondoloni have noted that the bilateral relations between the two countries are on the rise and that there is capacity for their strengthening, especially given the fact that many French companies are present in strategic sectors in Serbia. The interlocutors have also discussed the upcoming visit of France's Minister for European Affairs Nathalie Loiseau to Serbia, which will - as it has been emphasised - confirm the commitment to developing interstate relations and to an even better understanding of the enlargement policy and the European path of Serbia.
