J. Joksimović and Huber: Switzerland – reliable and important development partner for Serbia

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has held a meeting with Vice-Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC and Head of the Department for Cooperation with Eastern Europe Ruth Huber. They have discussed current and future cooperation plans that should contribute to the process of European integration through strengthening and increasing the efficient functioning of institutions and supporting the reforms being implemented in the country.

Jadranka Joksimović has expressed her gratitude for the assistance that Switzerland, although not an EU member, has provided so far contributing to Serbia's accession to the European Union. In particular, she has stressed the fact that Switzerland is simultaneously one of the most crucial bilateral and development donors.

The Minister has informed SDC Vice-Director Ruth Huber about the achievements in the reform process, in particular those accomplished through strengthening institutions and applying European standards, emphasising that they promote democratic norms and modernise the state and society.

During their meeting, the necessity for joint engagement was pointed out regarding the strengthening of capacities of municipalities and cities to use development funds in cooperation with regional development agencies.

Vice-Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC and Head of the Department for Cooperation with Eastern Europe Ruth Huber has expressed Switzerland's willingness to contribute to Serbia's progress in the European integration process and commended the activities conducted on defining a multi-annual planning document for financing from development assistance funds.

She has explained that the Swiss Cooperation Strategy for Serbia - with a total budget of EUR 95 million envisaged for the period 2018-2021, is primarily focused on three areas - governance, economic development and employment, namely sustainable energy and resilient cities, with a view to intensifying reforms and accelerating development.
