Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has discussed with newly appointed Ambassador of Belgium Koenraad Adam on the relations and future cooperation of the two countries, Serbia’s European integration and the reforms being implemented in the process, the situation in the region and other topics.
The Minister has expressed her gratitude for the assistance and support Belgium has been providing to Serbia in the EU accession process. She has pointed out that EU membership is a strategic foreign policy interest of the country and said that European integration is the best mechanism of internal development and progress.
Jadranka Joksimović has informed her interlocutor that Serbia has so far opened 14 chapters - two of which have been provisionally closed, and that the opening of some of the chapters for which Serbia is prepared at the technical level, during Austria’s EU Council presidency by the end of the year, would confirm that the Union puts value on Serbia’s activities within the European integration and its clear commitment to implement the reforms that are an important segment of the overall development and progress of the country and the society.
The Minister has conveyed to Koenraad Adam Serbia’s wish to ensure cooperation, progress and peace in the region through stability. She has pointed to the need for others to follow the example of Serbia through concrete action.
Ambassador Koenraad Adam has said that Belgium will help Serbia on its European path. He has assessed that the results of the reforms Serbia is implementing in the accession process are visible and that this has been noticed in the EU. He has commended the transparent and inclusive debate process regarding constitutional amendments. He has reacted positively to Serbia’s efforts to ensure stability and cooperation in the region, adding that Serbia has proven to be a partner that the Union can seriously count on, particularly in terms of challenges such as the migrant crisis and terrorism.
