Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has held a meeting with State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and Co-chair of the Romania - Serbia Joint Commission for Protection of National Minorities George Ciamba. They have discussed bilateral relations, the position of the Romanian national minority, Serbia‘s process of European integration and other topics.
Jadranka Joksimović and George Ciamba have concluded that the relations between the two friendly countries are good and that they are successfully developing to mutual satisfaction.
Ciamba has stressed that some of the outstanding issues relating to the status of the Romanian national minority should be resolved in good faith and pointed out the need to reactivate the Intergovernmental Mixed Commission for National Minorities.
Minister Joksimović has underlined that Serbia is ready to improve the position of the Romanian national minority, and also resolve other outstanding issues through bilateral discussions and work within the Intergovernmental Mixed Commission.
Minister Joksimović has stressed that Serbia is determined to continue the process of European integration at full speed. She has noted that in addition to the 14 open chapters - of which two have been provisionally closed - there are expectations that several other chapters for which Serbia is prepared at the technical level will be opened by the end of the year during Austria's EU Council presidency.
State Secretary and Co-Chair of the Serbia - Romania Joint Commission for Protection of National Minorities George Ciamba has emphasised that Romania will continue to support Serbia’s process of European integration, especially during Romania’s EU Council presidency, which starts at the beginning of next year.
