“Croatia’s announcements on potential blocking of our European path do not surprise me, and what is more important - they do not frustrate me, because I know how much Serbia is serious in its reform policy on the European path and responsible in complicated international relations,” said Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović for the Wednesday issue of Novosti, commenting on the latest “threats” coming from Croatia.
She recalls that, in the EU, decisions are made by consensus, concerting the positions of all member states, adding that it has happened before, and not only to Serbia, that some countries were blocking the candidates’ negotiations due to bilateral issues.
“It is a bad practice that has lost credibility. A change in the decision-making process should certainly be a part of a broader EU reform agenda and the institutional reform that some are already discussing within the EU”, she says.
Commenting on the statement of former head of Croatian diplomacy Miro Kovač that Serbia will have to resolve the issue of compensating camp prisoners within the accession negotiations, Minister Joksimović has said that such a condition does not exist.
“My acquaintance Kovač got a bit confused. I am really surprised to see such issues being opened, given that Croatia joined the EU without having resolved the issues of property rights and pensions for those who, on top of all, had been banished from their homes”, says Joksimović.
