Commenting on the statement of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán that Serbia should be part of the E6 project (the union of Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania), Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has stated for Srpski Telegraf that this is not an idea of counterbalance or substitute for the EU, but the expected reaction to various proposals on reforming the EU.
“The idea is for the countries of Central and Southeast Europe, which have potential for future growth, potential for political cooperation based on the Central European identity and sound mutual political relations , to gather and discuss how best to promote their potentials within the EU and the future reform, particularly with regard to achieving sustainable development. Therefore, this is not a substitute for the EU, but an idea of a special cooperation platform within the EU, and it is a matter of great importance that we have been invited and perceived within such a format and group as the only country that is still not an EU member. Everyone knows that for years I have been talking about Serbia as a country of Southeast Europe and southern part of Central Europe, and not a part of the Western Balkans, and I have always emphasised that. However, let there be no doubt, none of these countries will leave the EU framework, but will only develop further cooperation and provide us additional support on our path towards EU membership, which can only be useful for us”, said Joksimović for Srpski Telegraf.
