Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has met today with Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides and has said that Cyprus is a friendly country that has shown extraordinary understanding for Serbia’s European path.
Joksimović has stated that Serbia and Cyprus not only have no outstanding issues, but are also two countries that support each other in the most important matters, such as territorial integrity and sovereignty.
“We are a friendly country, bilateral relations are exceptional, and Cyprus undoubtedly supports Serbia’s European path. They have always given consent for all chapters for which we were prepared and it is indisputable that we will also have Cyprus’ support in the continuation of European integration”, stressed Joksimović.
She has said that it is important that people in Serbia know that Serbia has many friendly countries in the EU, and that Cyprus provides unambiguous support, which the representatives of this country emphasise at forums and all multilateral meetings.
Joksimović has stated that the support is particularly important now when the President of Serbia is also presented with a difficult situation regarding the continuation of the dialogue, and in light of recent events at Kosovo and Metohija and the arrests of Serbs.
“I have informed Minister Christodoulides on the matter, and it is important that we respect and show friendship towards all our friends that give us strong and principled support, to nurture those good relations”, underlined Joksimović.
She has announced that the Draft agreement on cooperation in the field of European integration, through which Cyprus will provide additional support to Serbia, will be prepared at one of the upcoming sessions of the two governments to be held by the end of the year.
Head of Cypriot diplomacy Nikos Christodoulides has said that his country supports Serbia’s EU accession process, stressing that Serbia is a pillar of stability for Europe.
“We have had the opportunity to exchange views not only on our bilateral relations, which are excellent, but also primarily on European integration, that is, on Serbia’s accession process”, he explained.
Christodoulides has said that Cyprus supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, and that he is looking forward to meeting with Minister Joksimović who has invited him to visit Serbia again.
