J. Joksimović: Serbia’s continuous progress in European integration process commended

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has said that today’s resolution adopted in Strasbourg in the European Parliament, at the Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee between the EU and Serbia, is one of the most positive European Parliament resolutions Serbia has had so far.

After the meeting with the ambassadors of EU member states organised by Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić in Serbia, Joksimović said that the resolution commended Serbia’s continuous progress in the European integration process.
“It says that 2025 is not unattainable for Serbia if we accelerate reforms in certain areas; Serbia’s economic policy and regional cooperation were also commended, and a recommendation was given to the EU Council and the EC to open new chapters with Serbia by the end of June”, said Joksimović.

She has added that the resolution calls for full implementation of the Brussels Agreement, focusing on the Community of Serb Municipalities, also mentioning the subject of energy.
“The implementation of the Brussels Agreement is a precondition to pursuing comprehensive normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina that will at one point lead to a legally binding agreement. The fact that the resolution emphasises that full implementation of the Brussels Agreement is crucial is highly important”, said Joksimović.

She has stated that the fact that Serbia has sent amendments on the manner of electing holders of judicial functions to the Venice Commission was also commended, as was the relaunched drafting of the media strategy, adding that Serbia is expected to adopt the law on the Anti-Corruption Agency.
“The resolution also notes that we should progressively align our foreign policy with the EU common foreign and security policy”, stated Joksimović.

Joksimović has said that currently all EU member states have given consent to the opening of two chapters, so that it is certain to expect chapter 33 - Financial and budgetary provisions and chapter 13 on fisheries to be opened at the Intergovernmental Conference to be held by the end of June.

Stating that everything achieved since the EC Report in April has been presented at today’s meeting, particularly in the field of the rule of law, chapters 23 and 24, Joksimović has said that this is how the member states decide on the level of progress achieved.
“The good thing is that there has been progress, because if there hadn’t been, no chapter could be opened; the only thing left is to ascertain whether there could have been more progress. I personally believe there could have been a few more chapters, but given the atmosphere in the EU, I think we should not be dissatisfied and that this demonstrates a good pace of our negotiations”, said Joksimović.

She has announced that she and Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimović will sign IPARD by the end of June, which means that they will sign the agreement on grants intended for agricultural development worth EUR 175 million. She has further stated that, by the end of June, a part of pre-accession grants for 2017 in the amount of around EUR 42 million will also be signed.
