J. Joksimović and McAllister: Serbia’s results have been noticed, support from the EP shall not be lacking

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has talked with the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur for Serbia David McAllister about Serbia-EU relations, activities related to European integration, situation in the region and other crucial issues.

Jadranka Joksimović expressed her gratitude to McAllister for the cooperation and support provided to Serbia by him personally, as well as by the European Parliament, in the process of accession. This is particularly significant for the fact that the EP recognised the significance of EU enlargement to the Western Balkans, which will have a positive impact on the stability and prosperity of both the region and Europe as a whole.

Jadranka Joksimović informed McAllister that Serbia was ready to open five chapters: 33 - Financial and budgetary provisions, 9 - Financial services, 13 - Fisheries, 18 - Statistics and 17 - Economic and monetary policy. She expressed her expectations that several would be opened during Bulgaria’s presidency of the EU Council.

Joksimović and McAllister indicated the importance of continuing reforms within Chapters 23 and 24, in particular the significance of judicial reform, but also the fight against crime and corruption, minority rights, and media freedoms.

Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia David McAllister has estimated that Serbia had achieved plenty in the accession process so far - and that is why it has the support of partners from the EU and the EP, however, there is still a lot of work ahead for our country. He emphasised that he certainly supported the opening of new chapters with Serbia, but that the decision on the number of chapters to be opened would be adopted by EU Member States. He noted that the results of the reforms were positive and that any further progress in the rule of law would be valuated.
