J. Joksimović and Berg: IPA funds and EBRD for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises
May 14 2018 | Belgrade
Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has talked with the Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Serbia, Daniel Berg, about the coordinated approach of that bank and the EU to supporting and developing small and medium-sized enterprises − primarily in terms of the standards of their business, increasing the productivity and improving the quality of work.
The aim is to improve the accessibility of loans that EBRD provides for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, for the purpose of local economic development, through a coordinated approach of EU funds (IPA 2018) and EBRD.
Joksimović agrees with the need for an efficient model of combining the grant IPA funds with EBRD loans, noting that the amount of EC grants for Serbia should be even higher.
In addition, the need for further cooperation regarding the implementation of projects in the field of energy efficiency has been stressed. The Minister has pointed out the importance of these projects, while her initiative has been recognised and supported by international financial institutions and the EC.
Joksimović has informed Berg that the Ministry of European Integration and the Development Agency of Serbia have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation regarding the coordination of activities and finding financial sources for projects at the local level, through the network of the Regional Development Agencies. This will, as she has explained, contribute to better identifying the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises at the local level.
EBRD Director for Serbia Daniel Berg has specified that the funds allocated for regional initiatives are largely designated for the needs of Serbia, which demonstrates the capacities of Serbian institutions in comparison to the region.
