J. Joksimović: We are working intensively; I expect new chapters to be opened in June

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has said for Tanjug today that Serbia is ready for the opening of five negotiation chapters - 33 (Financial and Budgetary Provisions), 9 (Financial Services), 13 (Fisheries), 18 (Statistics) and 17 (Economic and Monetary Union).

Responding to Tanjug’s questions, she specified that Serbia is ready at the technical level for the opening of five negotiation chapters, i.e. that negotiating positions for those chapters have officially been submitted to the EU Presidency.

“More precisely, these are chapters 33 (Financial and Budgetary Provisions), 9 (Financial Services), 13 (Fisheries), 18 (Statistics) and 17 (Economic and Monetary Union)”, stated Joksimović.

She has emphasised that EU member states will consider the decision on the opening of chapters after the publication of the annual Progress Report on Serbia, which the European Commission will publish on 17 April.

Joksimović has also underlined that she is in constant and regular contact with EU institutions and member states, and that, this week, she has informed EU ambassadors on the state of play in Serbia’s European integration process, so as to present the results of the reforms in Serbia in all relevant areas and achieve further progress in the EU accession negotiations.

The Minister has expressed her expectation that Serbia will be able to open a significant package of negotiation chapters in June, because that would be a positive political message to our country in a generally more favourable atmosphere in the EU for the enlargement process, and in accordance with the priorities of Bulgarian presidency.
