J. Joksimović: Serbia is neither in Euro-Asian nor in Euro-Atlantic integration

Concerning the recent statement by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Brian Hoyt Yee, the Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has said today that Serbia was neither in the process of Euro-Asian nor Euro-Atlantic integration, but in European integration.

She highlighted that the Russian Federation and the United States are “global players”, whose interests sometimes intertwine and collide, very often in the geographical area of our country.

“That is precisely why I am deeply convinced that European integration is the right answer to Serbia's stabilisation on the foreign policy plan and modernisation and stabilisation on the domestic policy plan. We are involved in European integration and belong to the European continent, whilst Euro-Atlantic and Euro-Asian integration are something else. We are pushing for European integration and I believe that we shall be successful in that regard,” Joksimović has told reporters in Belgrade.

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State stated yesterday in Belgrade that sitting in two chairs at the same time was not possible, noting that a country like Serbia, which wants to become a member of the EU, had to send a very clear message and not balance between two sides.
He has also said that the US “does not understand why the personnel of the Russian Humanitarian Centre should get diplomatic identity”.
