J. Joksimović: European integration stabilises the position of Serbia

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has assessed that bringing the European integration process closer to the citizens of Serbia today is a particularly challenging task because "an increase in Euroscepticism is evident not only in the candidate countries, but also in the Member States of the European Union."

Joksimović has said that the European relations have become more complicated and that regional relations are also not so straightforward, concluding that it is necessary to find a way in all this to clarify to the citizens of Serbia and EU Member States why further enlargement of the Union is important.

The Minister has added that there is a certain type of resistance in some Member States towards further EU enlargement, and that, on the other hand, it is necessary to convince the citizens that this is a process that will stabilise the country in terms of both the internal and foreign policy.

"European integration should contribute to better prospects for young people, a better standard of living, more work, more job opportunities, more learning, more travel... These are the topics our citizens are interested in," Joksimović has said.

She believes that Serbia should also be interested in its position in complex regional and European relations.

"I think that European integration is a path that stabilises the position of our country at these two levels," the Minister has concluded.
