United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNOPS Grete Faremo in official visit to Serbia

United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Grete Faremo is on a two-day official visit to Serbia. As Faremo highlighted during the first day of the visit at a meeting held in the Ministry of European Integration, UNOPS was determined to continue supporting the Serbian Government in the implementation of reforms throughout the European integration process.

During the meeting, Faremo and the United Nations team in Serbia underlined the active participation of UNOPS in the implementation of the Development Partnership Framework 2016−2020 that the UN team signed with the Government of Serbia, especially in the areas of economic development, employment, social protection of vulnerable groups and improvement of infrastructure. This document represents a comprehensive basis for cooperation and assistance of the UN system aimed at encouraging and improving the overall economic, social and ecological development of Serbia, notes the statement issued by UNOPS.

United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Grete Faremo met yesterday with the Head of Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, Ambassador Sem Fabrizi, and Swiss Ambassador to Serbia Philippe Guex. “Donors of the largest development projects implemented by UNOPS in Serbia, the EU Delegation and the Government of Switzerland, are satisfied with the results that have contributed to the sustainable development and improvement of people's quality of life,” stated Executive Director of UNOPS Grete Faremo.

UNOPS is a specialised UN agency in the areas of infrastructure, procurement and project management, and it is currently implementing eight projects in Serbia, with a value of nearly EUR 50 million. In addition to the European Union Assistance Programme for Flood Relief and Reconstruction of Damaged Road Structures, UNOPS is implementing the European PROGRES programme intended for the development of 34 under-developed municipalities in the south-east and south-west of the country, as well as projects that promote the inclusion of vulnerable communities.
