J. Joksimović: Economic development as conflicts prevention

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has said today that economic diplomacy and economic development actually act as conflict prevention in the region, and that this is what the focus of European integration should be.

"Political issues are such that we will probably debate on them for a long time, but economic diplomacy and economic development actually act as conflict prevention, and that is what the focus of European integration should be ," Joksimović, who participated in the two-day Forum The Next Generation of EU Member States in Salzburg, told Tanjug.

She stated that her fellow ministers from the region had presented their achievements in that respect, but that it seemed to her that Serbia was really in a leading position in that regard.

"Our Ministry is even structured in a way that we have two departments dealing with local and regional development and the use of funds. The citizen is at the centre of the European integration process, whereas the overall development, development of our economy, our state and our citizens, and the local economic development is what guides us," Joksimović said.
