Adriatic-Ionian Transnational Cooperation Programme Launched and the First Call for Proposals Announced

he Conference marking the launch of the Interreg Adriatic-Ionian Transnational Cooperation Programme 2014-2020 for which the European Union has contributed 83,4 million EUR ERDF and 15,7 million EUR IPA II funds for the period 2014-2020, was held on 9-10 December 2015 in Bologna, Italy. The event was organised by the Managing Authority of the Programme, Region Emilia-Romagna, and was attended by representatives of programme bodies, the European Commission, national, regional and local authorities from the programme territory, as well as, potential applicants, including research institutions, chambers of commerce, civil society organisations and the private sector.

The thematic priorities and objectives of the Programme and it’s link with the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region were presented. Two panel discussions were organised discussing the similarities and differences between transnational programmes in the Adriatic-Ionian region (Med, Balkan-Med and Adriatic-Ionian Programmes) and the challenges in the Adriatic and Ionian region. The Managing Authorities of the Programmes will maintain regular contact and the Programmes will seek solutions to address new challenges in the region including the migrant crisis.

The launch of the Open Call for Project Proposals was announced for the beginning of 2016 and the main characteristics of the call were presented. In the afternoon session, the participants presented project ideas under each of the five specific objectives of the Programme inviting interested institutions from the programme area to further develop these project ideas and jointly prepare project proposals.
