Agreements from Brussels are not up for bargaining!

Chapter 35 was supposed to monitor the agreements reached with Pristina, although it has been proven time and again that Serbia adheres to them. Agreements either exist or they do not – they are not to be traded with or bargained for. The only way the EU can keep the integral invulnerability and indivisibility of the negotiation process with Serbia is to evacuate the monitoring of the Brussels Agreement from its negotiating platform for chapter 35.

Serbian Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has said in Bucharest today that she expects the European Union to start speaking about enlargement with one voice. At an informal meeting of ministers and state secretaries in charge of European affairs of EU candidate countries, she has said that Serbia expects the holding of an intergovernmental conference by the end of June and the opening of some of the chapters. "We expect from the European Union to start speaking about the future of enlargement with one voice, so that we, as candidates, can prepare a realistic reform agenda and behave according to the expectations of our people," said Minister Joksimović.

“If the European Union, as the mediator and the guarantor, accepts Pristina’s current approach to the dialogue and the Brussels Agreement, we expect the European Commission to remove this additional content from chapter 35 that monitors the implementation of the Brussels Agreements, so that it remains related to the so-called ‘other issues’ as in the case of other countries”, stated Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović.

The overall dynamics of Serbia’s accession negotiation process has maintained a stable and relatively solid pace since the opening of accession negotiations.

Being among the front-runners in the accession process, as acknowledged by the European Commission in its Credible Enlargement Strategy for the Western Balkans, published in February 2018, Serbia has been opening new negotiation chapters every European semester, while at the same time we’ve continued internal work on preparing for the opening of new chapters.

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović has signed a new contract today with Deputy Director General of the Council of Europe Development Bank Stephan Sellen on the Ninth sub-project of the regional care programme for refugees and internally displaced persons worth EUR 23.5 million that envisages housing solutions for another 900 refugee families.

The Energy Efficiency Project, which Technical School "Mileva Marić Ajnštajn" in Novi Sad is implementing within the IPA project Serbia – Croatia, is a good example of how the EU funds should be used, given that Serbia annually receives an average of EUR 200 million in grants therefrom. This is the conclusion of today's visit of Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović, Mayor of Novi Sad Miloš Vučević and Director of the Regional Development Agency "Bačka" Aleksandar Sofić, to this school.
