The open skies agreement

The Agreement on Common Aviation Area of Europe or the Open Skies Agreement was signed on 29 June 2006 between Serbia, EU, countries of the Western Balkans, Island and Norway, while the Serbian Assembly ratified it on 13 May 2009. The implementation of the Open Skies Agreement is one of the conditions for Serbia’s accession to the EU, and its application can be seen in the arrival of low cost airlines to Serbia. The EU initiated this project in 2004 and its essence is that the European air space erases national boundaries, because the division of air space had had a negative influence on the efficiency of airlines due to the fact that airlines spent more fuel and time because they had to undergo a series of controls.
